LR30 LOTR 'Barrow wight™' 32mm Scale Metal Miniature.LR Limited Edition pewter series.
Evil spirits were sent to the Barrow-downs by the Witch-king of Angmar in order to prevent a resurrection of the destroyed Dúnedain kingdom of Cardolan.

They animated the dead bones of the Dúnedain buried there, as well as older bones of Edain from the First Age which still were buried there.

During the Fellowship of the Ring, Frodo Baggins and company were trapped in the Barrow-downs, and nearly slain by a barrow-wight.

LR29 LOTR 'Tom Bombadil™ & Fatty Lumpkin™' 32mm Scale Metal Miniatures.LR Limited Edition pewter series.
The pony kept by Tom Bombadil. Fatty Lumpkin was rarely ridden by Tom, and spent much of his time roaming free on the Barrow-downs. The ponies of Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin got to know Fatty Lumpkin and managed to find him after the hobbits encounter a wight in the Barrow-downs. When the hobbits' ponies escaped from Bree, their familiarity with Fatty Lumpkin led them back to Tom's house.

LR27 LOTR 'Fatty Bolger™ and the Gaffer™' 32mm Scale Metal Miniatures.LR Limited Edition pewter series.
Fredegar "Fatty" Bolger was one of the small group of Hobbits who knew that Frodo had the Ring. When Frodo Baggins, Sam, Merry and Pippin set out to take the Ring to Rivendell, Fredegar stayed behind in Frodo's house at Crickhollow in an attempt to keep up appearances and delay news of their departure, as well as give any message to Gandalf should he turn up.

"The Gaffer" was a nickname that Samwise had for his father, Hamfast Gamgee, an expert gardener.

He lives on a farm called Bamfurlong in the Marish region of the Eastfarthing of the Shire. Mushrooms, highly prized edibles among Hobbits, grow abundantly on his land, and Farmer Maggot often has to deal with other Hobbits stealing them, which is one reason he keeps a pack of large, fierce dogs.

LR24 LOTR 'Merry™ & Pippin™' 32mm Scale Metal Miniatures.LR Limited Edition pewter series.
Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took were friends of Frodo and Samwise and they were companions on the epic trek from their Hobbit homeland of the peaceful Shire all the way to Mordor (although each had their own adventures along the way too). Later, Pippin and Merry were instrumental in overthrowing Saruman's forces during the Scouring of the Shire, and thus achieved much greater fame in their homeland than Frodo and Sam.

LR23 LOTR 'Frodo™ & Sam™' 32mm Scale Metal Miniatures.LR Limited Edition pewter series.
Frodo Baggins and his friend (and gardener) Samwise Gamgees were central characters in the Fellowship of the Ring and both, at times, carried the One Ring of Sauron, as they travelled from the Shire, their Hobbit homeland, through many adventures and mishaps, all the way to Mordor, and the Mountain of Doom, a volcano. Only here could the One Ring be destroyed.

LR22 LOTR 'Bilbo™ (farewell speech)' 32mm Scale Metal Miniatures.LR Limited Edition pewter series.
Bilbo the Hobbit had a birthday party to celebrate his "eleventy-one years" (and also Frodo's birthday) and had invited one hundred and forty-four guests. As was traditional he gave a speech at the end of the meal, using some humor as well as clever and thinly vealed insults in his address to the Hobbits (aimed at the Sackville-Bagginses). At the end of it he used the One Ring to disappear in front of his audience with his final words being "..eleventy-one years is far too short a time to spend among you — this is the END. I am going. I am leaving NOW. GOOD-BYE!".

Late in the Third-age, when Gandalf realised that Bilbo's ring was in fact the One Ring, and that Sauron's servants were searching Middle-earth in its pursuit, he arranged that the Rangers of the North should keep a watch on the Shire. One such ranger was posted on the Brandywine river, south of the Shire in order to track any suspicious northbound travellers. He took up his watch at Sarn ford.
