David Daines 's Painted Dioramas. Page 4 Page 1 / Page 2 / Page 3 / Page 4 / Page 5 / Page 6 / Page 7 'The Chamber of Marzabul' The Chamber of Marzabul was completed some time ago and is a boxed diorama with small light bulbs to illuminate it. At the moment the 'box' is being redesigned and the bulbs aren't evident. The Chamber is largely built from polystyrene packaging from various goods that seemed to look right for the job - this was covered with wall filler, and like my Shelob diorama the spider web is the real thing. To give some license I have combined events a little, but I wanted very much to ensure that the orc captain attacking Frodo was included. 'The Granting of the Shire' (using figures from our Rare Stock) About this time legend among the Hobbits first becomes history with a reckoning of years. For it was in the one thousand six hundred and first year of the Third Age that the Fallowhide brothers, Marcho and Blanco, set out from Bree; and having obtained permission from the high king at Fornost*, they crossed the brown river Baranduin with a great following of Hobbits * As the records of Gondor relate this was Argeleb II The base, as for Thorin is carved from Balsa foam and the decorative pattern and brighter colours hopefully add a splash of colour to the scene. MS435 - Sauron at Gorgoroth (vignette). The Last Alliance - I chose to add a cloak to Sauron to make him look 'bigger' and more overpowering. The scene in this particular group shows Sauron having been struck a 'mortal' blow by Aiglos in the process of slaying both Elendil and Gil-Galad in his own death throes (I have perhaps used some artistic license in the sequence of events). Contains elves from the Battle of Mirkwood series of Mithril figures. I have used this diorama as a good excuse to use many of the LR figure releases to depict mainly the Elven host as it battles on the slopes of Mount Doom, Isildur can be seen ready to leap up and hew the Ring off of Sauron's finger. Also used were the Mirkwood elves. Originally I intended to use more orcs and dwarves, but decided not to as the scene would have become overcrowded; in the end a troll is being despatched and a couple of fleeing orc warriors are being cut down by pursuing elves. A note of thanks to Gold Fellowship Forum member 'Gildor' for the advice & research he helped me with. The King of the Dead figure (MS439) is shown here at the moment where Aragorn has released the Dead from their oath, and again uses up soem of the older figures from Mithril.
The MX436 Troll Chieftain. This figure is to be incorporated into a diorama at a later stage, but I couldn't resist painting it now. I have substituted the provided shield as I felt this shield will serve my purpose better and the supplied shield is earmarked for another troll in the propsed diorama. All figures were painted in acrylics and in most cases
